My kids are making me crazy.
I love my kids with all my heart. Really. But I’ve gotten lost during this Christmas break.
I’m used to having some “me” time every day. Usually in the afternoon while Alex is napping and Keira and Nick are at school. It is my time to do whatever I want (within reason, of course). I usually read blogs or read a book or even work out the next month’s budget. With no interruptions. The time usually only lasts an hour or so, but I’ve come to depend on it to unwind a little.
But these past few days, I’m finding it incredibly difficult to have my “me” time.
I went up to my bedroom to read for a while this afternoon while the kids were watching a movie. Alex and Nick must have come up at least 6 times each to ask me something.
Mom, can you get me some watermelon?
Mom, when can we go to Chuck E. Cheese’s next?
Mom, I need juice.
Mom, am I allowed to have a cookie? A candy cane? A banana? Anything? I’m soooooo hungry. (This was right after lunch, by the way).
Mom, where are we going tomorrow?
You know, important questions that can’t possibly wait until I come back downstairs.
Tonight I went down to the basement to put in a load of laundry and Nick followed me down the stairs to ask me something. Ugh! It takes all of like 3 minutes to put a load of laundry in the washer. He couldn’t wait until I came back upstairs?!
Plus I’m getting to bed later than usual this week - and I stay up too late as it is. Since they don’t have school, I let them stay up a little later. Which means I don’t get much time to myself after they go to bed either. During this time I usually fold laundry or something equally as unexciting, but I’m still alone. Well, just me and the dog. :)
I had to establish a rule a while ago. When I’m in the bathroom (taking a shower, etc.), unless the house is literally on fire, you will leave me alone. It doesn’t always work, but it at least slows them down and makes them think before barging in asking for juice. Like I have juice with me in the shower. Geez!
Plus they are fighting! All. The. Time. Nick and Alex are fighting as I type this. And expecting me to be referee. Again.
I think I will change my “name” from Mom to … well, I don’t know.
Ugh! I need a vacation from this vacation!
